PART I PREMIERED JUNE 2017
★★★★ "Not since Barrie Kosky's The Wilderness Room (1995) have I seen theatre that engages the mystery and tradition of Judaism with such profound depth." CAMERON WOODHEAD - THE AGE
BOOK OF EXODUS is the final installment in Fraught Outfit’s Innocence Trilogy, which also includes ON THE BODILY EDUCATION OF YOUNG GIRLS (Neon Festival 2013) and their highly acclaimed production of THE BACCHAE (MIAF 2015, Dark Mofo 2016).
Theatre Works is proud to present BOOK OF EXODUS in two parts; Part I premieres in June 2017, and Part II at Theatre Works in October 2017.
PART 1: MAY 31-JUNE 18, 2017
Two children create a documentary of a history they cannot remember.
Inspired by the biblical BOOK OF EXODUS, Part I is a response to the ancient narrative of plagues and miracles, violence and division, punishment and liberation, the drowned and the saved.

"a work that stuns visually, draws you into its ritual, and leaves you haunted by troubling depths. It's one of the rare shows you wish were longer and Part Two, to premiere later this year, can't come soon enough."
CAMERON WOODHEAD - THE AGE
"Beautifully executed" SARAH BALKIN - THE CONVERSATION
"The presence of the children onstage mutely poses the questions: How are children to understand the suffering and crimes of history? How much is memory itself a reproduction of violence? The show doesn’t attempt to answer these questions. Rather, it brings them to the surface of your mind, delicately and even playfully, in a way that is profoundly unsettling....It leaves you speechless." ALISON CROGGON - THE MONTHLY
